Disney Headphones Jr. Announced

For whatever reasons, headphones designed to protect children’s hearing are just now becoming more prevalent in the marketplace. Disney is releasing two versions of their Headphones Jr. this fall that will not only fit smaller heads well, but offer volume limiting to keep kids’ ears safe.

By now most families have at least one parent with a smartphone or other small computing device that gets regularly carried around. LeapFrog has designed the Text and Learn to appeal to young kids who want to emulate their parent’s behavior. While parents may be engaged in more advanced activities, the Text and Learn gives those 3 and older a way to learn more about letters on a device similar to their parent’s.

Disney Flix Jr. Digital Video Camera Announced

Disney Announces Ultimate Buzz Lightyear Robot

CES and Toy Fair were a little light this year in terms of robotics, so we’re glad to see Disney step up with a 16″ Buzz Lightyear. The popular Space Ranger from the Toy Story series of movies features 7 motors that are controllable via remote control. Buzz also incorporates 100 phrases in his authentic voice and the appropriate sound effects. The Ultimate Buzz Lightyear robot will be available this Fall.

The Neopets learning game for the LeapFrog Didj teaches and enforces contextual spelling, possessive nouns, parts of speech, and subject-verb agreement for 7-10 year olds. It’s a low-pressure game where your child explores the game world, collects items, completes quests, and gathers petpets by playing educational games with them.

Review: Imagination Games Frogger DVD Game

Imagination games has a somewhat different take on affordable interactive gaming. While many offer battery powered TV Games that connect to the TV, Imagination has a series of DVD-based games that come with floor mats. In this case, kids follow on-screen instructions from Frogger to see who can hop to the end of the mat the fastest.

LeapFrog Issues Voluntary Recall on My Pal Scout

Just out on the market a short while, MyPal Scout has been recalled due to a problem with the paw decals. Apparently in two cases have been reported of children peeling off the decals, though no injuries have occurred. LeapFrog will be updating Scout to include embroidered paws and through the recall will replace existing Scout units with a new one.

Asus and Disney Announce Disney Netpal – Netbook for Kids

Asus more or less invented the current category of lightweight, low-cost portable computers called Netbooks. Disney and Asus have partnered to make the Disney Netpal, a kid-friendly portable computer. The Disney Netpal features more than 40 parental control options, an 8.9″ display, WiFi, Windows XP Home, and kid-friendly software featuring Disney characters. The Netpal will hit retail in July and will start at $349.99.

LeapFrog Tag Junior Now Available

The LeapFrog Tag Junior Reading System that was announced back in January is now shipping for $34.99. The Tag Junior does what the bigger brother Tag Reading System does, just for the younger set who are learning to interact with words. Tag Junior is a chunky unit that is designed for ages 2-4.
