Toy Fair 2010: Off the Beaten Path, Technology-wise

One of the really cool things about Toy Fair is that along side the big toy manufacturing conglomerates like Mattel, Fisher Price, Hasbro, VTech, and Lego, you also get to see small mom and pop shops, toys that are waiting to be picked up for manufacturing, and items sold overseas looking for a market share in the US. Here’s where I found some of the coolest items.

VTech Launches KidiLook Digital Photo Frame

VTech has launched a digital picture frame designed for kids in the 3-6 age group. The KidiLook runs $24.99 and lets kids have a portable photo gallery that holds 100 images. Kids can scroll through their image or give the unit a shake to shuffle through their pictures.

VTech Rolls Out Bugsby – Sets Sights on Tag Reader

It’s hard to look at the new kid’s reading tool from VTech, Bugsby, without drawing an immediate comparison to the popular LeapFrog Tag Reading System. From what we can tell, VTech decided to get into the action by knocking off the LeapFrog system in a less elegant, albeit less costly system.

Six New Games for Vtech V-Motion Released

About a month ago we broke the news about Vtech’s latest games for the V-Motion system. Now they’ve formally announced the first six games with ten more to be released throughout the year. The first six include: Little Einsteins, Ni Hao Kai Lan, NASCAR, Soccer Challenge, Wild Waves and Snow Park Extreme.

Review: Kung Fu Panda for Vtech V-Motion

Kung Fu Panda – Path of the Panda for V-Motion is one of the more arcade-like games available for the system. Designed for kids ages 4-6, Kung Fu Panda teaches skills in geometry, math, logic and other areas.

Vtech Releasing New V-Motion Games

Review: VTech KidiDoodle

The VTech KidiDoodle is a drawing system that allows kids to have fun doodling with a friend. A wireless connection, accomplished with IR lights, allows drawings and e-cards to be sent and received. Included games provide cooperative play and teach some basic spelling, counting, and matching skills. The KidiDoodle comes in packs of two, so you’ll be equipped for cooperative play right out of the box.

Review: Thomas & Friends for VTech V-Motion

Review: VTech Kidizoom Camera

I don’t think there’s any argument that kids are fascinated by cameras. They love taking pictures, they love taking videos, and they love seeing pictures of themselves. While there have been digital cameras marketed for children around for a while, it’s taken some time to get to a point where they’re more than just cheap digital cameras – there are now cameras actually built for kids. The VTech Kidizoom is one of these models. The tough construction, double hand grip, binocular-style viewfinder and LCD all contribute to a product that is perfectly made for children three years old and up.
