Toy Fair 2010: Off the Beaten Path, Technology-wise

One of the really cool things about Toy Fair is that along side the big toy manufacturing conglomerates like Mattel, Fisher Price, Hasbro, VTech, and Lego, you also get to see small mom and pop shops, toys that are waiting to be picked up for manufacturing, and items sold overseas looking for a market share in the US. Here’s where I found some of the coolest items.

At Toy Fair we saw the new lineup of Kota-branded dinos from Playskool. The Stompers are a mid-range interactive dinosaur line that walk, errr, stomp, roar and in the case of the Triceratops, raises and lowers its head.
Playskool Launches Kota and Pals Touch Sensitive Dinosaurs

Playskool has expanded on their Kota dinosaur line with a series of smaller animated robots. The new Kota & Pals line includes three varieties of dino friends, each with touch sensors and their own personalities. The Hatchlings are tiny plush dinos that respond to touch, Stompers walk and make lifelike sounds while the big guy, Monty Rex, walks and moves all of his appendages.
Review: Playskool Dance Cam

The Playskool Dance Cam is designed to let kids age 3-6 feel like stars as they dance to music. The best part is that kids get to see themselves live on their televisions, complete with extra characters like dancing dogs. Dance Cam connects to any television via standard RCA cables and runs on 4 AA batteries.
Playskool Kota Unboxing

The crew at Engadget has picked up Kota, a potentially popular Holiday-season gift. The $300 interactive Triceratops is definitely a kid favorite, but this guy doesn’t walk, which is a bit confusing given the pictures on the box and the initial promotional materials featuring Kota with a rider. While Kota does have 11 sensors to interact with your child, the only thing it does when you sit on it is make jungle noises.
Playskool Dance Cam Announced

Playskool has announced Dance Cam, which is designed to let preschoolers dance to songs while watching on-screen characters dance along in tandem. The Dance Cam is designed for kids age 3 and up and will ship this fall for $39.99.

At the Toy Fair in New York today, Playskool formally announced Kota, an animatronic dinosaur designed for kids 3-6 years old. The dino features 11 sensors to interact with your child, runs on six D batteries and will run $300 this fall.
