New Hexbugs and Nano Habitats Creep Into Toy Fair [Toy Fair 2011]

Written on Feb 20, 2011 by Brian and filed under Hexbug

Hexbug is always good for something fun and new at Toy Fair. Whatever they’re doing is working, as their presence this year was huge, with s special corridor containing all sorts of creepy crawly and vibrating bugs.

Hexbug had several bits of new habitat gear, including a spiral track piece designed to let Hexbug Nanos traverse multiple levels of elevated tracks and habitats. The spirals will be sold as part of new sets, and possibly on their own as well. Hexbug was showing several retail design concepts around track expansion packs kids could add to existing sets, much like a bulk bag of train track for wooden railways.

Hexbug also has a new creature, the Spider. The Spider features 360 degree steering an LED forward eye and a two-channel mini remote control. The Spider is the largest Hexbug to date at 3 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide. Each of its six legs operate as it scoots about, making it not only fun to operate, but to watch as well. The Spider will come in several colors including Red, Green, Blue, Orange and Teal and carries a suggested retail price of $29.99.

Of course Hexbug was also showing of their upcoming glow-in-the-dark Hexbug Nanos and habitats. The sets are starting to hit retailers now and of course are compatible with all other Nano track sets and habitats. The basic starter set retails for $19.99, the larger set is $39.99. Individual glow-in-the-dark Nano bugs will be sold in their signature test tubes for $11.99.

Hexbug is also updating several of their older lines of bugs, like the Inchworm and Crab with fun new metallic paint jobs. They also have a new product that’s in the works that feels like it’s straight out of a Sci-Fi movie where worms invade the planet. More on this little guy as it gets closer to market and full reviews of the new lines to come.
