Desk Pets Presents TankBot [Toy Fair 2011]
Written on Feb 16, 2011 by RuthJS and filed under News
It’s small, it’s green (or orange, blue or black), it’s controlled by your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch . . . it’s TankBot from Desk Pets International, and it’s new at Toy Fair 2011.
This rechargeable micro-robot retails for under $20 and runs in three modes, allowing it to navigate mazes, avoid obstacles, respond to specific commands from your Apple mobile device or just to roam. Additionally, TankBot has a long list of fun features including:
- Takes advantage of Apple’s accelerometer technology; just plug it into your headphone jack, and it can be fully controlled by tilting your iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch
- Uses IR sensors to navigate mazes, avoiding obstacles, and reacting with military precision
- Makes cool tank sounds while it’s in roam mode
- Sports a rechargeable battery and a retractable USB charger: 30 minutes of charge will give you 15 minutes of play
- The eyes flash a pulsing light when the robot is idle
- Each of the four colors operates on own frequency, so the robots can race or battle each other
Due out in June, the TankBot looks like one cool toy.
