Mattel has officially announced a release date for the Dora links doll and online suite of tools – September 29th. Dora Links was first announced in February, then we got a secret first look at a prototypeof the Dora Links doll. As part of this announcement comes the ability to pre-order Dora Links at select retailers. Mattel is also showing a tiny piece of the online Dora Links world.
The Dora Links doll is the cornerstone of the new Dora’s Explorer Girls collection for girls 5 – 8 years old. The collection features Dora Links, the innovative, interactive, computer-compatible doll depicting Dora as a slightly older girl; and her four best friends – Naiya, Emma, Kate and Alana. Together, they live in the robust online world of Puerto Verde, a fictional beachside city where the girls go to school, get involved in their community, help friends, and work together to keep their home clean and green.
If you don’t know already, Dora Links is a combination of doll and web-based virtual world. Dora isn’t jsut any doll though, she’s an older version of the kid’s favorite and the doll comes complete with motors that customize Dora’s hair length, and other tech-tricks that can change Dora’s lip color, eye color and jewelry. The doll will plug into a PC via USB to let kids control these features. But it doesn’t stop there, kids will get to go on adventures in Dora’s online world to – solving mysteries and playing learning games.
Unfortunately Mattel didn’t let loose too many secrets that we didn’t already know. But kids that want to stay connected can subscribe to “D-Mail” to get updates from the Dora Links site.
