We own the LeapFrog Tag and have a lot of the books. The biggest drawbacks are the limited memory and having to download/synch the Tag Reader. The Learning Path, in theory, seems nice, but the information it gives is sometimes very generic.

We went out and got a 32MB Tag, and even then the memory is still limited. Why not just have a microSD reader? Can you even buy 32MB flash anymore? When LeapFrog comes out with a Tag that has a microSD reader, it'll solve most of the complaints.

BTW, quality control at LeapFrog isn't guaranteed either. The first 32MB Tag we got was DOA and had to be exchanged.

I see a big advantage of the VTech Bugsby going beyond just the price, that is, NOT having to synch/download. The Tag isn't well suited for long trips. Also, what happens if LeapFrog servers go down, or even if LeapFrog goes out of business?

The VTech would be nice since you don't have to lug a laptop or hook to a PC every time you want to add a book ... like on vacations. The kids can plug the book "cartridge" in by themselves.

We're certainly interested the Bugsby because it seems so much more convenient.

But the most important element for success is content. If VTech's books are engaging and fun for the kids to use, it'll be hit.
