Rubik’s TouchCube Announced – Rubik’s Cube with Touch Controls

Written on Feb 12, 2009 by Brian and filed under News, Techno Source

The Rubik’s Cube is possibly the most iconic puzzle of all time. What better way to modernize the classic then with touch controls and an accelerometer? Techno Source will be bringing the revamped Cube to market this fall. Rubik’s TouchCube is designed for ages 8 and up and will retail for $149.99.

Rubik’s TouchCube features touch sensor technology on all six sides, a motion-detecting accelerometer, and colored lights in every square. It even mimics the movements of the original 3×3 Cube—swipe a finger across three squares and the lights will follow, “turning” a side of the Cube; make an “L” shape to turn the top face of the Cube a quarter turn. Rubik’s TouchCube’s motion-detecting accelerometer only recognizes moves made on the top side of the Cube, so that a player’s fingers won’t move the lights on other sides when holding it.

If it gets too hard, instead of peeling off the stickers and re-gluing them in place; Rubik’s TouchCube includes a built-in solver that will help solve the Cube step by step or in its entirety. The Cube features internal memory so progress can be saved at any time. There are also sound effects to recreate the classic sounds of the original Cube.

Rubik’s TouchCube will be on display this weekend at the Toy Fair and will make it to stores this fall for a retail price of $149.99
