LeapFrog Zippity Active Gaming System Announced

Written on Feb 3, 2009 by Brian and filed under LeapFrog, News

In cooperation with Disney, LeapFrog has announced Zippity, a TV-based gaming system that combined full body movement with educational games and entertainment. Zippity is designed for kids age 3-5 and comes with a console/gaming pad system with software titles sold separately.

The Zippity system lets kids interact with Playhouse Disney and Disney characters in a new way. Kids can dance, jump and move with their favorite characters from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny, Little Einsteins, Winnie the Pooh, Disney Princess and Cars. As they play kids will be learning too, with emphasis on preschool skills such as math, language, music and culture.

Zippity’s big pitch though is around active entertainment. It accomplishes this by leading kids through eight learning games that use an interactive mat for lower-body movement—such as running, dancing, jumping and marching—and a giant joystick, or “bopper,” for upper body action—such as left, right, forward and back. The system comes with all eight learning activities pre-loaded plus a foldable mat and bopper, which interacts wirelessly with the console that connects to your TV.

For age appropriate difficulty, each game features two levels of play. In addition to the included games, there will be three other games available at launch. These will feature Disney characters, Disney Princess and Disney-Pixar Cars. There will also be a game based on the upcoming The Princess and the Frog movie which will be released this winter.

As with other LeapFrog products, the Zippity system is on the LeapFrog Learning Path, which provides parents with insight into their child’s learning activities. There will be online access as well as reporting directly on the TV.

The Zippity system will be available this summer and will retail for $79.99 with additional games selling at $24.99.
