Dora Links Tech Doll and New Tween Dora Coming This Fall

Dora is moving to the big city and that’s not all that’s changing; she’s older too and attending middle school. Mattel and Nickelodeon are upgrading Dora’s look and age to appeal to a new, older audience – the new tween Dora is designed to appeal to girls age 5 and up. Her full new look and product line will be revealed this fall, but we already know about an intriguing new tech-laden doll that stands to be a game changer.
In addition to the older look, kids will get to play with Dora in new ways, including a full online world complete with interactive doll called Dora Links. Girls can access Dora’s interactive online world by plugging the Dora Links doll into a computer. This computer-connected play offers girls a unique experience. Girls can go online to customize their doll and watch as she “magically” transforms right before their eyes. For example, if kids change Dora’s hair length, jewelry, and eye color on screen, the Dora doll changes as well.
Aside from customizing their Dora Links doll online, girls can also explore Dora’s world, talk to the characters, earn currency, and help Dora solve mysteries which will be uploaded on a regular basis. As girls explore and solve mysteries online, the doll’s speech will change to correspond with their play. In addition, Dora Links features an alert system that lets the doll know when new mysteries are being uploaded to the Dora site.
There’s little doubt this doll has the potential to have a huge impact. The level of integration between the doll and the online world appears to be unprecedented. We look forward to learning more this fall when the new Dora is fully revealed. The Dora Links doll is expected to retail for $59.99.
