Mattel D-REX Interactive Dinosaur Shipping

Written on Nov 10, 2008 by Brian and filed under Mattel, News

D-REX, Mattel’s less popular robot dinosaur, is shipping now for a retail price of $149.99. While a little more expensive than Fisher-Price’s Spike (also a Mattel company), D-REX is being discounted already.

The D-REX Interactive Dinosaur is a robotic dinosaur that is built on being personable. Giving a robot a personality is a tall task. D-REX accomplishes this as he moves, roars, and responds to your child’s voice and touch. A bone-shaped remote control unit even lets you “train” him as a guard dinosaur or an attack pet.

D-REX has rubbery skin that is loosely stretched to accommodate movement, and he has a reptilian texture that is soft to the touch. While his oversized feet and a fun spiked collar balance his menacing teeth and his darting yellow eyes, he does seem to be intimidating. D-REX has a sense of humor though and reacts nicely to anyone willing to scratch the back of his head.

D-REX has embedded sensors and a bit of a mind of his own. Kids wanting full control of movements should consider

#mce_temp_url# instead. D-REX is more about personality and that means he’s somewhat temperamental. D-REX responds to voice and touch and has several play modes like “guard” and “attack.”

D-REX is recommended for kids age 8 and up and runs on 5 C batteries and 2 AAA batteries for the remote.
